Out of Hours Vet Surgeon Vacancy in Leicestershire (Part-Time, Permanent) Ref:SV0182

    Leicestershire, United Kingdom
    Competitive
    UK

    About This Role

PDSA, one of the UK’s largest animal charities, is launching a new Out of Hours (OOH) service at its Pet Hospital in Leicestershire. This part-time, permanent role has been created with a strong focus on wellbeing and work–life balance.

This is not a typical OOH position. The caseload is manageable, and the rota offers a consistent pattern of 7 nights on, followed by 14 nights off. The role focuses solely on medical and surgical emergency cases, ensuring varied clinical exposure without the pressures of routine consultations or income-based targets.

PDSA is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who demonstrates:
    • Confidence in sole charge situations
    • Proficiency in soft tissue surgery
    • A genuine interest in emergency and critical care
    • Motivation to support and mentor veterinary students

The Leicestershire-based Pet Hospital is fully equipped and staffed by a friendly, collaborative team. The hospital benefits from excellent transport links, including access to major motorways and rail connections, and is located within 30 minutes of East Midlands Airport. The culture strongly emphasises teamwork, support, and a positive working environment.

    Benefits Include:
    • 37.5 hours of CPD funding per year
    • RCVS fees fully covered
    • Contributory pension scheme
    • Free staff parking
    • Life assurance (4x annual salary)
    • Flexible working options
    • 25 days of annual leave (plus Bank Holidays), with buy/sell options
    • Additional days off: Volunteering Day, Celebration Day, Wellbeing Day
    • 24/7 online wellbeing support & Employee Assistance Program
    • Access to retail and holiday discounts via the fetch platform

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a growing emergency service within a modern, well-supported hospital. Veterinary professionals will find a role where their clinical expertise is respected, their wellbeing prioritised, and their impact on pets and owners truly meaningful.
Veterinary Surgeons interested in a rewarding OOH role within a supportive charity environment are encouraged to apply.
